Idli-Dosa Molagapudi | Chutney Powder - Video recipe

Chutney powder /chutney podi / idli molagapudi is an integral part of South Indian breakfast served along with idli / dosas . This spice powder is a wonderful blend of dhalls,red chillies ,sesame seeds and salt.
Make this at home and enjoy with fluffy idlis or dosas or can be mixed with hot rice and ghee and eaten with your favorite potato chips.

Ingredients 1 cup channa dhall 3/4 cup udad dhall 1 tsp sesame seeds ( white til / black til ) few curry leaves 4-5 red chillies (pandi / gunturu variety) 5-6 kashmiri / byadgi chillies small piece of tamarind asafoetida a pinch salt to taste 1/2 tsp oil 1 tsp jaggery/ sugar (optional) Method
  • In a hot kadai, first dry roast the sesame seeds unti they splutter well and turn crisp. transfer and keep aside for cooling.
  • heat 1/2 tsp oil, and roast the udad dhall + channa dhall until golden brown and crisp . transfer it to a plate and let it cool
  • dry roast the curry leaves,red chillies until crisp.
  • add all the roasted ingredients,tamarind,asafoetida,salt and sugar and grind it in a mixie coarsely.
  • stop after 1 or 2 pulses and add the sesame seeds and grinf to a semi coarse powder.
  • transfer to an airtght container and enjoy with your dosas and idlis.
