Aloo Saunfwale / Fennel flavored Potato

Share with friends and family

It has been pouring cats and dogs since Saturday here and it continued all the way until Sunday.. so you guessed it right it was a RAINY WEEKEND with no much excitement . The week started with a gloomy and cloudy weather and this calls for a piping hot lunch and some yummy spicy treat to the taste buds.
Potatoes are my very good friends when it comes to sizzle my taste buds on a gloomy dull day.
I made this grilled potato on skewers by soaking them in a marinade of hung curd and home ground spices and paired it with piping hot Dal Khichdi and Raita.

  • Grind the saunf ,green chillies into a fine paste.

  • In a mixing bowl, add the hung curd,chilli-fennel paste, salt, black salt and mix well.
  • Keep a little of this curd fennel mixture aside to be served as a dip along with this grilled potatoes
  • Put in the parboiled potato cubes and coat it well with the marinade .Use your hands to mix the potato into the mixture.

  • Keep this mixture in the fridge for about 45 mins and then arrange them on skewers and toast them over the stove top or you could even grill them in the preheated oven  at 250 F .
  • Keep turning the skewers occasionally to ensure the potatoes get grilled equally on all sides.

Serving suggestions
  • Take the potato cubes off the skewers .Sprinkle the chat masala powder over the potatoes.
  • Spread the lime juice all around and toss well. Serve with the dip that we already kept aside and some tomato sauce.
Notes
  • If you do not have skewers / oven, you can simply take these cubes on a griddle/tava with a little oil and roast them on slow flame.
  • In oven, just place the potato cubes on a baking tray and bake them in a pre heated oven at 250F.
