Adai /Lentil Crepes

Adai/Lentil Crepes is a very famous dish of Tamil Nadu,India. Made out of a mixture of all lentils and rice.Makes a very healthy breakfast.

Adai Avial is a very famous combination in most south indian homes.


Preparation Time : 4-5 hours
Cooking Time : 15 mins
Serves : 4-5 

                                                                                                               

Ingredients

1 measure bengal gram dhall / channa dal
1 1/2 measure raw rice
1 measure toor dhall + udad dhaal   + moong dhaal
4-5 dry red chillies
3-4 green chillies
ginger 
bunch of curry leaves
salt to taste

Method

  • Wash the lentils and rice nicely in water and soak them for about 4-5 hours.
  • Soak the red chillies along with the rice and lentils.
  • Grind them well in a blender / mixie to a slighlty coarse batter. While grinding add the curry leaves,ginger and green chillies.
  • Add salt as per taste.
  • You can also add chopped onions,corriander and mint leaves to the batter.
  • Now heat a griddle / dosa tava .
  • Take a ladle full of the batter  and spread on the tava like dosa. Remember Adai is a little thick and not as thin as a dosa.
  • Serve hot with ghee or coconut chutney.
  • It can also be had with jaggery.
